The fight that was to be known as the Battle of Hogwarts was soon to start. Orders had been given and everyone was ready for the siege to begin. Apollo waited near the entrance of the school with the Dark Lord and the other Death Eaters. He would never admit it but he was afraid, afraid that he would find Adora dead somewhere in the school after everything was over. She was, and always had been his best friend. She always stood by him even when he had decided to join the death eaters to follow in his fallen parents footsteps. She still accepted him even though he wasn't totally right in the head. Logically if someone had murdered their parents you would want revenge. Not Apollo, he just wanted to make his parents proud. And following in their footsteps had seemed to be the only way. Even though he had chosen this path of darkness, there was still a light within him. His heart, it was strong. But that could all end in an instant if he lost Adora. She was all he had left in the world.

Apollo glanced around at the death eaters that surrounded them; there was a mixture of emotions around him. Some looked scared; others nervous and a few looked like they didn't want to be here. He didn't blame any of the feelings, family and friends were within the walls of the school. People he had recently been around every day while he had attended school. All attention was brought back to reality and the school as the armoured statues surrounded the school blocking the entrances of the school. The protection spells got reinforced. Voldemort’s words made Apollo shudder, “They never learn. What a pity.” Someone stepped forward, “My lord. Shouldn't we wait?” Voldemort simply looked at him and said, “Begin!” Apollo followed suit and raised his wand. Sending spells at the protection wall around the school. The sound was deafening as they hit the wall with such force. It broke apart slowly, they kept on. The wall soon came crashing down, and it was time to fight. Fight innocent children. Kill everyone and everything in their paths. Death eaters, giants, dementors they all charged ahead into the group of statues guarding the bridge.

Inside the school, screaming and crying could be heard. “Arvada Kadavra!” Apollo shouted several times, he watched as many students fell dead to the ground. Their courage and fear frozen on their faces. Hours past, deaths on both sided piled up. Apollo feared it would never end. Then word of Harry Potter’s death reached his ear. It was over. All over. Everyone gathered in a court yard to see the body of the boy who once lived. Apollo recognized the gamer keeper Hagrid as he carried Harry’s limp body towards the middle of the crowd. All was silent until Voldemort started gloating. All eyes were on him as he spoke. Apollo searched the crowd opposite them desperately for Adora’s face. Before he had the chance to really look Harry was suddenly alive and he and voldemort were locked in battle. Voldemort looked weak. Would he fall?

Finally it was all over, Voldemort fell and both sides started collecting their wounded and counting their deaths. Families of opposing sides were reunited. Apollo finally found Adora, she was helping the school nurse tend to wounded students. He grabbed her arm, “Are you alright?” He searched her eyes for any sign that she was hurt when she didn't say anything or give him any indication that she was okay he stepped back letting her work. He watched her as he leaned against the wall. As he looked around the school he had a flash back to all his years within the walls of the school, two years had seemed to disappear after graduation so quickly. Just a short time ago he was parading around the school as Head Boy barking out orders. He smiled slightly at the memory. He had enjoyed his time here despite his past. This school had been his home.

His thoughts were interrupted as Adora finally came to his side, he looked down at her with a pained expression. He took her hand and lead her out side. They aparated into Knockturn Alley. He hugged her briefly and smiled at her. He stood there for a long time watching her, unable to keep his eyes off of her. HE was so thankful she hadn't been killed or injured in the battle. Finally he looked away from her as they aparated to his home in London, the home he had grown up in. It was beginning to fall apart from neglect but it was still home.

Standing in the foyer he turned to Adora, “Are you okay? You look tired.” He reached up and tucked her hair behind her ear, “I was afraid I would lose you.” He smiled at her. He still hadn't told her he loved her. Even though they had spent almost every moment since they had graduated together. He had been in love with her for as long as he could remember. But the fear of putting her in danger always kept him from confessing his love to her. Their time together had been forbidden, they had been on opposite sides after all. Apollo glanced down at his arm. He lifted his robes from it and studied the now motionless dark mark. “Do you think it will fade over time?” His words were quiet and filled with sorrow. The weight of the students, peers and teachers he had killed. So many faces that he knew all too well, he had just witnessed and participated in making them meet their ends. It was too much. His eyes swelled up and tears broke over the brim of his eyes. He walked away from Adora and sat down at the kitchen table with his head In his hands.

It was here. The war of a lifetime. The war that had been feared and dreaded for years and years and it had finally arrived. The warning from the dark lord was still echoing in Adora's ears as she shoved through crowds and crowds of panicking students, piles on bandages and bottles of medicine in her arms. She didn't shout or snap at the people pushing past her - it wasn't the time or the place - these people were as scared as she was and everyone was panicking, even the teachers as they tried to order people in the confusion. Adora was mostly managing to keep her rising panic at bay by busying herself with jobs from the school matron who really was too elderly to be elbowing through the terrified crowd. However, deep down Adora could feel the bubbling dread, the knowledge that Apollo would be on the opposing side, that would kill her friends and teachers without a second thought, was chilling. It had been keeping her awake for weeks - what if they came face to face? What would Apollo do? Would he harm her? After all they had been through... she didn't know for certain and that was what scared her the most.

Just as Adora delivered the last batch of bandages and other supplies to the hospital wing, where the injured would be taken and cared for by the nurse, there was an almighty crash from outside the castle. Both Adora and the matron looked out towards the window and watched as streams of light from thousands of wands began to fracture the protective shield around the school. For a moment there was a deathly silence, that seemed to echo through the entire school but a second later the night was alight with screams of fear. Adora watched the protective shield crumble before their eyes and heard the nurse gasp softly beside her. Adora turned to the woman and embraced her warmly, squeezing her tight, knowing this could be the last time she ever saw her. Adora let go and without another word she was running out of the doors and making her way to where the fighting teachers and students were gathering, watching as the shield fell around them. Adora joined the group, but her eyes weren't focussed on the sky above the school, it was on the mass of death eaters gathered over the bridge. Of course from this distance she couldn't see Apollo but she knew he was there and for a moment she closed her eyes, praying for him one more time to step down, not to do this, when he knew it was wrong. He couldn't though and she knew that - he would be killed instantly and that thought made her feel faint. She was going to have to fight on her side, and Apollo on his and that was the way it was and always had been.

Adora stood and waited, along with the rest of the order and the teachers and pupils of the school that had stayed to fight, the tension in the air was almost palpable and Adora shifted nervously from foot to foot, her wand clutched in her hand. They weren’t kept waiting long and a minute or so later the death eaters on the opposite side of the bank began to run, battle cries echoing across the mountains and the thundering footsteps of the giants and other beasts that had joined them filled the air too. Adora took a deep breath, steeling herself, just as a teacher cried somewhere off to her left, “Fight for your school, they will not take our freedom!” With that the students and teachers surged forward as one and suddenly Adora found herself running to meet the death eaters with her wand raised. Before she even became aware that the two sides had met spells were flying everywhere, people were screaming and bodies were falling around her. Adora narrowly missed a nasty looking black shot of light and cursed the man who had cast it, he was wearing his dark hood still and Adora was relieved when it fell back and it wasn’t Apollo. The man fell to the ground and Adora moved on to her next opponent. And so it went on, Adora watched her friends and teachers fall around her but deaths were heavy on both sides and something about that made the sacrifice seem almost reasonable, but of course it wasn’t.

Not once did she see Apollo and at first that ignited hope in her that somehow he had found a way not to fight but as the battle drew on and bodies began to pile up Adora began to fear that she might see his face amongst those strewn on the ground. The fight continued and Adora had more close encounters than she would have liked, only barely managing to dodge or shield herself behind a rock from several killing curses . The school was in ruin and every time she looked up another part seemed to be crumbling before her very eyes, it was heart-breaking but she knew the cause they were fighting for and she knew it would all be worth it in the end. Or at least that was what was keeping her going, until the same booming, icy voice that had filled her head and the head of every other witch or wizard before the battle began spoke again. Harry Potter was dead Adora stopped still, along with hundreds upon thousands of others, just stopped and stood in silence. Harry Potter – he was their only hope. Adora felt her insides turn to ice as the night filled with screams once more, but this time they were not screams of fear or agony, but ones of sorrow. Adora didn’t make a sound but she closed her eyes, knowing there would be no more fighting, no more spells cast as the Dark Lord summoned his followers to the courtyard. Adora had to see this for herself, she followed the crowds, who were running to see if it was true, pushing and shoving until they reached the courtyard. Adora was right on the edge, watching the scene play out in front of her – it was all true. However, it wasn’t on Harry Potter where her eyes rested, it was on Apollo. He was stood amongst the other Death Eaters, his skin dirty with dust and cuts, much like Adora imagined hers would be and despite the side he was on, what he must have done and the scene that was unfolding Adora felt a swell of relief just knowing that he was alive.

She wasn’t concentrating, she was exhausted and her limbs felt like lead, all she could do was stare at Apollo trying to see if her best friend was still there in those dark, suspicious eyes. As a result, however, Adora jumped suddenly as a ripple of screams erupted from the crowd around her and her eyes shot to the figure of Harry Potter standing before the Dark Lord. Adora gasped along with the crowd and before she could even get her head around what was happening Harry Potter and Voldemort were locked in battle, it took moments, much less time than it should have done but to everyone who was present’s amazement He Who Must Not Be Named suddenly faltered and fell. Then he was gone. There was silence, and then a roar from the crowd, Death Eaters were running, people around her were jumping and screaming and crying and the dead still lay on the ground. Adora didn’t join the celebrations – too many had died for her to feel any type of victory, instead she watched as Apollo broke away from the Death Eaters and pushed through the cheering crowd to the castle and he was gone. Adora knew he was looking for her but she couldn’t face him, not yet.

The gathering of the dead began and all celebrations ceased as people began to realise the scale of loses their side had suffered, brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, friends and strangers were crying. Adora helped carry the dead with the help of others into the Great Hall, lying them out and closing their eyes for their families to come and grieve. The sick were also brought in but set slightly away from the dead and Adora moved over to help the nurse tend to the wounded. She was bandaging a young girl’s arm that had been badly burned during the fight when someone grabbed her and pulled her away. Adora looked up, knowing who it would be instantly – when she saw Apollo’s concerned face half of her wanted to throw her arms around him and never let him go while the other half wanted to run far away, knowing the sins he must have committed today. He spoke but Adora didn’t really take in the words, knowing she couldn’t answer any of his questions now anyway, she wouldn’t be able to find her voice. He seemed to realise this and released her arm so she could continue working. Adora returned to the girl without a word and finished off the bandage, once she was done and couldn’t put it off any longer Adora turned away and approached Apollo, not saying a word. She knew he would take her away from here and right now she couldn’t stand to here to sorrowful sobs and cries of the families and couldn’t bear to see any more faces that she recognised lying on the floor, with their eyes closed, blissfully unaware of the pain they left behind.

Just as she predicted, within moments they were gone, apparated to god knows where and suddenly Apollo’s arms were around her and Adora breathed in his reassuringly familiar scent, clinging to him without realising what she was doing. Adora could feel tears starting to brim but she held them back, holding Apollo’s gaze as he stared down at her for endless moments. They were both safe and that was what mattered right? But would Apollo ever be the same again? Adora said nothing and a minute or so later Apollo took her arm and they apparated once more, she recognised this time his family home – she had been here a couple of time previously but now it was dilapidated and unloved. As Apollo tugged a strand of hair behind her ear Adora looked up at him, unable to return his smile but nodding in answer to his question. She was tired and she wasn’t alright but she knew he was still checking if she was hurt and she wasn’t so for now he would have to make do with her none-verbal reassurance. She glanced down as he lifted the sleeve of his robes, showing the ugly dark mark tattoo that resided there, Adora could still remember the first day he had shown it to her and to this day she still hated it with all her heart. She didn’t need to think about his question – she knew it wouldn’t fade, she answered softly but shortly, her voice hoarse, “No.” Adora watched the tears fill Apollo’s eyes before he turned away and slumped down at the kitchen table, she stayed where she was struggling to keep her own tears at bay and still torn over how she felt. Could she still love this man like she had before? Now knowing what he had done, who he had killed? Adora followed Apollo’s path to the table and without really thinking about it she pulled his hand away from his face and climbed onto his knee, wrapping his arms around her and cuddling close to his chest. They often sat like this if one was upset or after one of their raging arguments about the Death Eaters but this time Adora didn’t close her eyes as she normally would she simply sat with her hand resting on his neck, gently stroking his slight stubble with her thumb, she spoke softly, “I can’t forgive you.” She stared off into space, thinking of the empty eyes of the people lying in the Great Hall and the pain of the families left behind.

Apollo didn’t move as he felt Adora’s hand on his. He let her pull his hand away from his face. When she climbed onto his knee, wrapping his arms around her and cuddling close to his chest, he didn’t move at first. He was unsure if he should be holding her, he didn’t deserve her affection after what he had done today. He had done horrible things. He killed people that he had shared classes with two years ago. People that he knew very well. And for what? The Dark Lord, who was killed by Harry Potter, the chosen one. He felt everything he had done over the last several years had been in vein. He had failed his parents. He didn’t do anything to make them proud. He was sure they were turning over in their graves with disappointment. He had chosen the wrong side. He should have been standing next to Adora through it all. Not fighting against her. She probably would be his by now if he had chosen the right side, the good side. Apollo was suddenly aware of Adora’s close proximity, with her hand resting on his neck, gently stroking his slight stubble with her thumb, she spoke softly, “I can’t forgive you.” He flinched at her words, he never expected her to forgive him. Hell he would never forgive himself for the things he had done. He chewed on the corner of his bottom lip as he wrapped one arm around her. He kept his marked, tainted life ruining arm that bared his poor choices on it at his side unwilling to touch her with it. He feared it would somehow bring harm to her innocent, gentle soul.

He finally looked up to meet her eyes; she was off somewhere else. He reached up gently to touch her face but retracted when he saw the ugly mark on his arm. He scowled and shifted so that she was forced to get off his lap. When she looked like she was going to say something, he shook his head. “Don’t. Just don’t.” He walked over to the kitchen counter and leaned against it. He suddenly felt really dirty. He needed a shower. He took off out of the kitchen down a flight of stairs into the basement where the master suite of the house was. He grabbed clean clothes from his closet and went into the bathroom. He locked the door behind him so Adora couldn’t come into the bathroom to check on him. He pulled off his robes. The robes given to him by the dark lord. The robes worn by Death Eaters. He pulled off his shirt, shoes then his pants. He dropped all of it on the floor and stared at all of it in disgust. This was not what he wanted to be. It was not who he wanted to be. He lifted his wand off the counter and pointed it at the pile of clothes. He glared furiously at the fire and screamed, “Incendio!” The pile of clothing burst into flames. He stared darkly at it. He imagined his past melting away with the clothes. He tiled his head to one side watching as the robes were engulfed in the flames. A slightly twisted smile spread across his face. It felt freeing almost. There was still more, the hideous tattoo on his arm. He glared menacingly at it. Tears rolled down his face as he ignored the sound of Adora’s sweet, angelic voice outside the bathroom door. He pulled his gaze from his arm to watch the fire, there was nothing but small fragments of cloth left of the clothing. “Aqua Eructo.” He whispered at the flames, water poured from his wand onto the flames. They died out and soon were nothing but smoke.

He stepped into the shower turning on the water. It was hot, way too hot on his skin. But he didn’t care. He wanted to burn the images out of his mind. All the screaming, the pain, fear and looks in all of those people’s eyes as they fell to the floor one after another. He had killed people. He took innocent lives. He was nothing but a monster. Tears steamed down his face as he let out a strangled scream. He ran his hands through his hair. He had to get rid of it. The tattoo it needed to be gone. He turned off the water and stepped out of the tub. He wrapped a towel around his waist and picked up his wand again. He looked at his forearm with hate. This mark symbolized everything he didn’t want to be. Everything he had done. Because of it he could never have Adora. He was undeserving of her. He pointed his wand at his arm, “Sectumsempra!” He shouted the words, they shook with his anger, his pain and remorse for what he’d done. He gasped at the pain that erupted from his arm. He was unable to look away as deep cuts slashed across his forearm disfiguring the dark mark.

It wasn’t enough. He could still see it, “Sectumsempra!” He shouted again, his voice was strangled through clenched teeth as the cuts grew deeper and deeper until he could see nothing but blood. The tattoo was gone lost in the sea of blood. A small smile spread across his face. This was the beginning of a new life. That was however if he survived from the lack of blood. He lacked the knowledge to heal the wound. That was Adora’s specialty. His Adora. He muttered, “alohomora.” Allowing the door to unlock. He watched as Adora ran inside the bathroom. He smiled at her, “I-I-I…” What was he trying to say? His mind was cloudy and he couldn’t wrap mind around what he was thinking. “I’m…I’m s-s-sorry.” He smiled a lopsided smile as his knees buckled. Blood was still pouring from his forearm, “P-please….f-forgive me A-Adora. I-I..” His eyes fluttered as he tried to hold on to consciousness, “I-I l-love y-you…I a-always ha—“ his voice trailed off as consciousness left him. He fell to the floor. He wasn’t dead, just passed out from blood loss.

When Apollo woke up he was still lying on the bathroom floor. The pile of what used to be his clothes was cleared away and his arm was bandaged. It hurt, really bad. He looked up to find Adora watching him carefully. He smiled and sat up slowly, but didn't speak. He knew he was in trouble. By the look on her face he had scared the shit out of her. He was going to get an earful, he knew he deserved it. He could have killed himself doing what he did. But, it would have been worth it. She would be free of his darkness. He would no longer loom around her like an angry storm cloud waiting to burst violently. He chewed on the corner of is bottom lip and watched her. Even angry she was beautiful, though he knew she could never forgive him, especially not now. She would never be his. He'd made far too many bad choices in his life to deserve her.

Disturbed from her thoughts as Apollo reached up and touched her face lightly, Adora looked towards him, into his eyes, only to feel his hand snap away. She watched him warily for a second, unable to fathom the swirling emotions she could see in his dark eyes. Without warning, Apollo shifted and stood so Adora was forced to stand up and step out of the way as he walked over to the kitchen counter. Adora opened her mouth to speak but at his harsh words she closed it again and watched him in silence. Something was going on, she could practically see the tension rolling off his shoulders and it worried her. Part of Adora wanted to go to him, as she normally would and comfort him but today something was holding her back, perhaps the idea that he hadn't quite come back from the dark side yet. Before she could decide to do anything though Apollo was walking away from her and down some steps that Adora knew led to the master bedroom and a bathroom. "Apollo..." She murmured, knowing he wouldn't hear her. She stood there for several more minutes with her eyes closed, trying to figure out how she was feeling, whether she wanted to follow him or not.

In the end her decision was made for her when she heard Apollo shout Incendio from somewhere below her. Slightly alarmed, Adora hurried over to the steps, "Apollo?" She called to him but received no answer as she descended the steps, when she reached the bedroom she looked around for a second before heading towards the bathroom for and knocking softly, "Apollo? What are you doing? Come out." She received only silence and so she pressed her ear to the door, listening for movement. She heard a muffled spell that she recognised as a water spell, she took a step back then, less worried that he was in some sort of danger and instead slid down the door so she was sitting with her back against it, just listening. She waited for a few minutes more, her head bowed into her hands, before speaking again, "Apollo, please come out. I want to talk about this." Again, nothing. However, this time she heard the shower start and the sound of water. She relaxed again and pushed herself up, walking over to the four-poster bed and flopping back on it, her arms and legs outstretched. She listened to the sound of Apollo's shower while she ran through, for the hundredth time, everything that had happened that day.

After a little while the sound of the shower ceased but Adora barely noticed, she was lying, staring at the ceiling, completely lost in her thoughts, wondering if things could ever be the same again. She wasn't really listening to the sounds coming from within the bathroom, that was, until a shout came that made her leap up and scramble off the bed. Adora's heart was pounding in her throat as she called to Apollo again, with panic and fear in her voice, "Apollo! What are you doing? Let me in!" A shout came again and this time Adora recognised the spell and her eyes widened, her hands coming down hard on the wooden door as she screamed at him, "Apollo! Apollo! What the fuck are you doing?! Let me in!" She was pounding on the door with her fists until she came to her senses and yanked her wand out of her pocket, holding it up just as she heard the lock on the door click open. Without hesitation Adora burst into the bathroom, gasping at the scene she found before her, her eyes drawn instantly the bright red blood that was such a contrast to the white tile. She looked up at Apollo's face, seeing his cloudy eyes and his distant smile, her throat was too dry to speak but she reached out for him taking a step forward, her whole body shaking with shock. What had he done?

Apollo's knees buckled but Adora could do nothing more than stand and stare at the bloody mess that was his upper arm, she couldn't believe he would do this - he had always loved his dark mark, when he had first got it he had told her it made him feel like a god. And now... it was nothing but bloody tatters on his skin. Her breath caught in the back of her throat as Apollo spoke, or tried to, and although she caught his words, which almost made her heart stop, she forced herself to concentrate. Adora lurched forward as she saw Apollo sway and fall and she managed to catch his head before it hit the tiles, kneeling on the bloody floor as she held his head in her lap. She looked down in panic but his eyes were closed, unconscious and Adora knew if this was caused by the loss of blood then it was bad, and the gashes were deep and she didn't have much time. Adora shifted from beneath him, setting his head on the tiled floor and hauling him, with some difficulty, onto his side so she could get a good view of his arm. Then she set to work. Firstly, she cleaned away the blood, only to see that the gashes were just continuing to bubble with blood, remembering that this was dark magic, Adora brushed her wand over the wounds and began to speak a soft, beautiful spell that could have been a song.

It took a lot longer than Adora would have liked - it proved just how powerful Apollo's magic was, his dark magic and it was almost frightening. However, finally, the blood stopped flowing and the gashes began to heal themselves, under Adora's wand. She sighed as relief she waved her wand again and bandages began to wrap themselves around the angry red skin and the smaller but still open gashes. Once the bandages were in place, Adora cast a charm on them, making it so that if Apollo attempted to touch them or take them off they would burn his fingers. It was what St Mungo's did with patients who were likely to try and hurt themselves again or were constantly removing their bandages or dressings. Plus, Adora's anger had only grown and grown while she had been healing him and by now she was fuming and would have no sympathy for any pain that his arm gave him, let alone the bandages if they burned him. Once she was finished, Adora looked down at Apollo, still unconscious and glanced around the bathroom, spotting the pile of ashes, which she banished without a thought, knowing exactly what they were. She then stood and left the bathroom, making her way over to the wardrobe in the bedroom and pulling out a pair of jeans, boxers and a shirt for Apollo. She returned to his side and dumped the clothes next to him before sitting down next to him, and waited for him to wake up, her knees pulled up and her forehead resting on them as she began to cry.

As soon as she heard Apollo shift for the first time about half an hour later Adora wiped her eyes quickly and adopted the most furious expression that she could manage as she glared down at him. Eventually he woke up enough to look up at her but she didn't return his smile and only glared down at him. Once she was sure he was fully aware, Adora stood up, picking up Apollo's wand that lay a few feet away and put it in her pocket with her own. She looked down at him, "You're an idiot, a fucking idiot." Her voice was still thick from her tears but she made sure it didn't shake. She conjured a plate of cookies, knowing he would need the sugar after all the blood he had lost, and set it beside him before speaking again, the anger ever obvious in her voice. "Eat those." She indicted the pile of clothes, "Get dressed." Adora pointed to his arm, "Don't touch the bandages." She turned her back on him and opened the door, before speaking again, "Stay here and think about what I would fucking do without you if you ever left me like that. I'll be back later." She walked out of the door, pulling it shut behind her and locking it from the outside before making her way back upstairs.

Adora threw Apollo's wand onto the kitchen counter and slumped down into a kitchen chair, laying her head down on her arms as she began to sob. Why had she fallen for a dark wizard? Why did she care so much for such a reckless man? Maybe she was the idiot after all. An hour or two later Adora had begun cooking dinner for the two of them, a simple stew from the most basic ingredients, she had found that the steady routine of cooking had soothed her. Now as the pot bubbled on the aged aga Adora made her way back downstairs and towards the bathroom door. She unlocked it and opened the door, looking in and speaking softly, "You can come out now."

Apollo watched quietly, still chewing on his lip as Adora stood up, picking up his wand that lay a few feet away and put it in her pocket with her own. He frowned, but said nothing. He understood why she took it. She obviously thought he would try that again. Which he wouldn’t. he just wanted to disfigure the mark beyond recognition. He had accomplished that, at least as far as he could tell before he passed out. He would have to get a good look at it as soon as the bandages were off o f his arm. She looked down at him, "You're an idiot, a fucking idiot." Her voice was still thick from her, his eyes flew up from his arm to meet hers. She’d been crying? Damnit. He certainly never wanted to cause her sorrow. He really hadn’t thought her reaction through very well. She conjured a plate of cookies and set it beside him before speaking again, the anger ever obvious in her voice. "Eat those." She indicted the pile of clothes, "Get dressed." Adora pointed to his arm, "Don't touch the bandages." She turned her back on him and opened the door, before speaking again, "Stay here and think about what I would fucking do without you if you ever left me like that. I'll be back later." She walked out of the door, pulling it shut behind her and locking it from the outside.

He sat motionless on the floor staring at the door. She expected him to sit and listen, like a child would to their parent who had just scolded them and grounded them to their room? Was she insane? He stood and tried to pull open the door. He tried the lock on the inside. Useless. He was trapped without his wand. He had no way to get the door open without kicking it in and he wasn’t really up to doing that seeing as he would be the one that would have to repair it later. He rolled his eyes and muttered to himself, “Fine. Have it your way then Adora.” He grabbed his boxers off the floor and pulled them on. Followed by his pants. He sat down on the floor next to the plate of cookies eying it suspiciously. Why the hell did he have to eat cookies? He wasn’t hungry. Besides, who could eat anything after today? He was sure if anything touched his stomach he would throw it up. Apollo leaned against the cool tub and placed his hand lightly on the bandages. He picked at a loose strand and jumped when a searing pain shot through his hand. “What the fuck?” He gasped as he put his finger in his mouth, sucking on it to try and dull the burning pain coursing through it. He removed his finger and examined it closely. It was red and swollen. He scowled, “Sure, use your magic from your crazy hospital on me.” He sighed and crossed his arms over his chest. He hadn’t even been trying to take them off, only pull a loose string.

After about an hour Apollo pulled on his shirt. The grabbed a cookie off the plate. He crossed his legs and stared into the full length mirror at himself. His reflection was scowling back at him. He looked dark, mysterious and lost. He tilted his head to the side studying his reflection. “Man, I looked fucked up.” He frowned again. He closed his eyes not wanting to stare at his reflection, he felt like it was giving him a very disapproving look. Almost as if his own mind was scolding and disapproving of him. Apollo crossed his arms over his chest. He dosed off, obviously needing sleep. He was tired; it had been a very long and tiresome day. He wasn’t sleeping for very long when the images of the battle crept into his mind making him jump in his sleep. His eyes flew open. He scowled, so much for sleep. He stood up and paced the floor. He was bored, tired, and hungry and pissed off. He didn’t want to be stuck in this stupid bathroom anymore.

Finally after what had felt like days Apollo heard the door unlock. He stopped pacing and glared at Adora as she opened the door. She looked in her voice soft as she spoke, "You can come out now." He rolled his eyes and pushed past her. He went straight into the bedroom ignoring her as she watched him. He opened the dresser and pulled out a pair of socks. He sat down on the bed to pull them on; as he did he avoided making eye contact with her. He was mad, but he would never express it towards her. He always made it a point not to take anything out on her; she did not deserve his anger. She was far too innocent and pure to endure it. He stood and moved past her up the stairs. As soon as he reached the kitchen he smiled. So she had cooked something. He sighed and turned around, stopping her tracks before she could return to the pot of stew on the stove. He placed his hands gently on her arms. His expression softer than it had been all day. He reached up with his bandages arm and touched her cheek with his hand. He ran his fingers gently down her face. “I’m sorry.” He smiled shyly at her. “I just wanted to erase it. Erase my mistakes. Start over and be able to give you everything you deserve.” He kissed her forehead softly, “You deserve so much better than me Adora. Why do you stick around? I know you hate what I am, and who I have become. Why do you still stay? You could have left me on that bathroom floor to die. I deserve it, after what I did today.” Tears formed in his eyes, but he didn’t look away from her. “I killed so many innocent people. People we knew. People who were our friends. How can you stand here and be near me. I’m nothing but a monster.” He broke eye contact with her and looked away.

Apollo took several deep breathes, attempting to calm himself. He refused to cry. It showed that he was weak. He didn’t want to be weak. He needed to be strong, not for himself but for her. He looked back at her suddenly. “I meant what I said.” At her expression he added, “I meant it, when I said that I love you. I always have. But I feel so unworthy of you. I don’t deserve someone as amazing, beautiful and kind as you. But I can’t bring myself to stay away. You bring light to my darkness. You are my life and reason for living.” He smiled at her then turned away moving so she could go past him if she chose. He had told her, no it was on her what to do with it. If she chose that moment to walk out on him, forever out of his life he would not stop her.

Before she could say anything else Apollo shoved past her out of the door Adora was holding open for him, she sighed, not really surprised that he was so pissed off - she hadn't really meant to leave him down here for so long, just long enough for her to cool off but apparently that had taken longer than expected. She couldn't help but roll her eyes at his back as he stormed away from her and began putting on socks, she watched him, waiting to see if he would yell at her or make some snide remark but he didn't so she just stood and waited for him to go upstairs once more. Even when he stood up and walked from the room he said nothing and Adora closed her eyes for a moment, counting to five before opening them again and following him up the stairs. She wasn't really looking where she was going, too lost in her thoughts as she made her way upwards and so it came as quite a shock to her when she came to a sudden halt as Apollo's hands grasped her arms and stopped her. She looked up at him, unsure if he was angry or if it was something else, Adora was surprised however when Apollo apologised - it was often that he actually admitted he had been wrong, in fact Adora could probably count the times on her ten fingers but never the less it was nice to here. She smiled back up at him, leaning her head into his hand as he caressed her cheek - it was soothing to have him back, even for a moment, the way he had always used to be.

She nodded but stayed silent as he explained - she understood his reasoning, hell she probably would have done something similar if she had been in his position and she was just thankful that he wasn't angry at her for locking him in the bathroom for so long. She hoped he understood that it had scared her and that being faced with the prospect of not having him around was not an option for Adora, not in this life, not in the next. As he kissed her forehead Adora closed her eyes, sighing as all the tension that had been building inside her for weeks was suddenly freed from her in Apollo's embrace. She listened to his words, pulling her head back and looking up at him, murmuring softly, "Apollo..." in an attempt to get him to be quiet and stop putting himself down but he didn't seem to hear her and Adora sensed that he needed to say it and even that it had been something he had needed to say for a while. She saw tears form in his eyes as she looked up at him and Adora reached up, touching his cheek, desperate to kiss away the pain that she could see in his eyes. However, as he reminded her of the events of today, the events that she knew she would never be able to hide from, her hand retracted and she looked down, unable to keep the image of Apollo slaughtering innocent people from her mind.

Adora sighed, closing her eyes, knowing it would be a long time before she could forgive him - she obviously still loved him - that would never change - but just something was different for her know, maybe it was the idea that Apollo could be that evil person and even if he promised to change forever and leave the death eaters the potential to be that man again would always be inside him. She looked back up at him as he spoke suddenly, blinking in shock at the words that came out and the feeling that arouse inside her. Adora knew that she would always feel the same way and always had done, even when she had been screaming in his face because she was so furious with him, she loved him - it was the only reason they had such passionate arguments, because they both cared too much for each other. Adora was still looking up at him with the same shocked expression when he moved out of her way, giving her space to walk away if she so wished. Adora lowered her eyes, not sure how to respond - could she tell a murderer that she loved him less than 5 hours after he had killed multiple people? Well, she thought, it was true so why shouldn't she? But something held her back and without a word Adora stepped past him and went over to the bubbling stew on the aga.

She stood for a moment, stirring the food with a wooden spoon and saying nothing and staring straight ahead. When she could no longer pretend to be distracted by their dinner Adora set down the spoon and turned to Apollo, looking over at him for a moment, trying to gather her scattered thoughts and pull what she wanted to say into a sentence. "Apollo..." She didn't know how to reply to his confession of love, so instead she decided to answer his question, "Apollo, I stay because you are my best friend, my person - you are the only one who I want to talk to every minute of every day, even when I'm mad at you." She paused and glanced at the bandage on his arm that was peeking out from beneath his shirt, "I have stayed through this phase, this obsession, whatever you want to call it, because I know that this isn't you." She gestured to his arm where the dark mark had been, a little more violently than she had meant to, "I stay because I am still hoping that you will come back to me and the man that I love will be the man I know he is, again." She walked over to him and reached up, standing close, to touch his cheek, "This isn't you, you're not a monster, and I'm just waiting for you to realise that." She stood on her toes and kissed him lightly, so light that their lips barely met and for only the briefest of moments before she pulled back and spoke again. "I love you, Apollo, I don't love the things you've done, or what you believe in, but I love you." She stroked his face gently, not breaking eye contact with him when she spoke more seriously, "But I can't wait forever. Being... what you are, and following... him... you are going to get yourself killed and you need to know that if you go back and make such a stupid mistake again you will lose me in the process, I promise you that." Adora dropped her gaze and removed her hand from his face, biting her lip slightly, not entirely sure how Apollo would react to what she had said - it wasn't exactly the confession of love that he had offered.

After a moment’s silence Adora pointed to a chair by the table and murmured, "I need to have a look at your wounds and change the dressing, sit down and I'll take a look before we eat." She walked over to the table and pulled out a chair of her own and sitting down, looking up expectantly at Apollo and trying to hide the nerves that had appeared suddenly in the pits of her stomach.

Apollo watched as Adora stepped past him and went over to the bubbling stew on the aga. He stayed standing by the stairs unmoving, fearing if he looked away from her she would disappear forever. As much as he felt that was what she should do, he didn’t want her to. He wanted her to stay here with him, always. But he could never force her to do something she didn’t want to. As he watched her stir the stew he looked back at his life. The things in his past, he remembered that from a early age he was taught that muggles, mudbloods and halfbloods weren't worthy enough to be in the presence of pureblood families. His thoughts ventured to the murder of his parents. He twitched at the thought. He had watched his mother get killed from the safety of that closet. The closet he had stored his toys in. It was his child hood closet. It was a big part of why he didn’t use the third floor. It brought back too many terrible memories. That room still had all his old toys and things he cherished as a child in that closet.

He jumped as Adora spoke, shaking him from his thoughts, "Apollo..." He looked up to meet her eyes. "Apollo, I stay because you are my best friend, my person - you are the only one who I want to talk to every minute of every day, even when I'm mad at you." She paused and glanced at the bandage on his arm that was peeking out from beneath his shirt, he looked down at them and scowled but quickly looked up at her again, "I have stayed through this phase, this obsession, whatever you want to call it, because I know that this isn't you." She gestured to his arm where the dark mark had been, he looked down again reluctantly knowing what he had done upset her. "I stay because I am still hoping that you will come back to me and the man that I love will be the man I know he is, again." She walked over to him and reached up, standing close, to touch his cheek, he closed his eyes loving her touch, "This isn't you, you're not a monster, and I'm just waiting for you to realise that." She stood on her toes and kissed him lightly, so light that their lips barely met and for only the briefest of moments before she pulled back and spoke again. He chewed on his lower lip and watched her; he wanted to kiss her again, but far more passionately. But he knew now was not the time for that. "I love you, Apollo, I don't love the things you've done, or what you believe in, but I love you." She stroked his face gently, not breaking eye contact with him when she spoke more seriously, "But I can't wait forever. Being... what you are, and following... him... you are going to get yourself killed and you need to know that if you go back and make such a stupid mistake again you will lose me in the process, I promise you that." Adora dropped her gaze and removed her hand from his face, biting her lip slightly.

He stared at her, a hurt expression flashed across his face but he replaced it quickly. The thought of losing her because of the path he was on was more disturbing to him than any of the things he had done since sixth year. Losing her would be he undoing. He had nothing to say, what could he say? The woman he loved had just given him an ultimatum. Her, the girl that he was deeply in love with he would die for her, or the path he had so boldly gone down without thinking. Now here she was, calling him back. She wanted him, but not what he was now. She wanted who he was before all the sick and twisted things because of his choice to follow in his parent’s footsteps and side with Voldemort.

He looked up as Adora pointed to a chair by the table and murmured, "I need to have a look at your wounds and change the dressing, sit down and I'll take a look before we eat." She walked over to the table and pulled out a chair of her own and sitting down, looking up expectantly at him. He stood staring at her for a moment. He had to put it all behind him, never again could he walk that path. She was here, for him and he wanted to be her for her. Protect her, love her and just enjoy life with her. He moved to sit down at the table and placed his arm on the table. Adora leant forward and took Apollo's arm in her grasp, pointing her wand at the bandage and murmuring a few words so it didn't burn her when she touched it. Gently she peeled it back to reveal the cuts underneath. He looked down, more out of curiosity than anything. It was still there. That ugly reminder was till there plastered to his arm on display. Reminding him of the things he had done. It was there, but it was disfigured, mangled even. He looked up at Adora then back down as she redressed it with a fresh bandage. Maybe it would fade over time. He could only hope.

Several days passed, their routine was very much the same. They would sleep, eat, redress his wounds, clean up the house. The days turned into weeks, and finally a couple of months had passed by them. Apollo thought less and less about the disfigured dark mark on his arm and more time about his time with Adora. At some point in their cleaning he had agreed to allow muggle things in the house. So they now had a pleasantly large sized television in the living room. He was still pretty baffled by how it worked. He sat in a reclining chair watching the images flicker across the screen; the volume was on mute since Adora had music playing on the stereo. She was dusting a shelf humming the lyrics to herself as she moved across the room. Her swaying to the music caught his attention and he looked over at her smiling. They hadn’t mentioned their confessions of love to each other since that first night back after the war. Apollo had taken it upon himself to really focus on bettering himself. He felt he had done a decent job of it. As she moved closer to him he purposefully reached out and grabbed her pulling her until she was in his lap. He pulled the duster from her hand and tossed it on the coffee table. Apollo smiled at her as he placed his hand gently on her face.

He wrapped his bandaged arm around her waist and pulled her against his chest. “No more cleaning today.” He tucked her hair behind her ear and kissed her forehead. “I want to focus on us now Adora. This old house will still be here for you to clean later. Now come.” He smiled and stood up keeping her in his arms. He left the tv and stereo on and headed into the kitchen, he went down the stairs into the master bedroom. He dumped Adora onto the bed and climbed over her. “As I said when we first got here, I love you Adora. I always have. I really want us to spend the rest of our lives together. My past, is my past but it no longer darkens my future. I need you in my life. But I would love if it was more than just as my best friend.” He moved a strand of hair out of her face and stared into her eyes, “Adora, my beautiful, loving, caring Adora. I want and need you in so many ways.” He leaned down and kissed her lips gently, “But before I say anymore, I need to know. Am I enough? With my flaws, my mistakes and my temper. Am I enough to make you happy.” He kissed her gently again, “Right now, you have a choice. Stay with me here, in my bed rather than sleeping upstairs, be with me. Spend your life with me.” He kissed her again, more passionately this time, “Or. If you chose, I can help you pack. I’ll take you to your family. And I won’t darken your beautiful light with my presence anymore.” He moved away and sat on the bed leaning against the head board with his legs and arms crossed. He watched her, waiting. This was it, the moment he had been fearing for a very long time. Would she stay? Or would she go?

The weeks passed and Apollo and Adora fell into a comfortable routine, Adora slept upstairs in one of the many bedrooms, while Apollo slept in the master bedroom in the basement. Nothing had yet been mentioned of the confessions they had made to each but that didn't bother Adora so much, she was happy to wait for Apollo, as she seemed to have been doing for years. They spent their days cleaning up the dusty old house and making it actually liveable as appose to a dilapidated old shack. It was taking a long time to get it into any shape at all and even after two months a lot of the rooms upstairs still hadn't been touched. Adora was starting to sense that Apollo was getting bored of cleaning as he was spending more and more time messing around or sitting in the recliner chair they had conjured and watching the television that Adora had finally convinced him to allow past the doorstep, now he couldn't seem to keep his eyes off it. The weather outside was turning colder as winter approached and with no heating in the house and only thin, moth eaten blankets to keep them warm Apollo was having to light a fire in almost every room just to keep them from freezing.

One particular day Adora was flitting around the lounge room, dusting off shelves for about the hundredth time that day - Adora didn't doubt that Apollo must have been getting fed up with her moaning about how the dust just seemed to appear out of nowhere so instead she had the stereo on. Apollo was once again in the recliner watching a silent television and every time she glanced at him Adora couldn't help but laugh at the utter look of concentration on his face and once again he tried to figure out how the machine worked. She was singing under her breath along to Here With Me by Dido that was playing through the speakers of the radio, swaying to the music as she continued cleaning. She passed by Apollo, the music tempting her to burst into song but before she could even try Apollo leant forward out of his seat and grabbed her, pulling her down onto his lap and making her yelp as she landed against his chest. She laughed and scowled as he tugged the duster from her hand, she smiled at him as he placed his hand on her face, leaning her cheek into it and closing her eyes for a moment as she waited for an explanation as to why she wasn't allowed to continue with her cleaning.

She felt his arm wrap around her waist as he pulled her down onto her chest, Adora rolled her eyes as he told her there would be no more cleaning, wondering how he expected to ever get this house sorted without doing some work. However, as he kissed her forehead she relaxed, not minding so much if he was going to cuddle her - cuddling with Apollo definitely beat cleaning every time. She glanced up at him as he spoke again, frowning slightly and wondering why he would chose now to talk about their relationship, maybe it was the music that had gone to his head, or his mild obsession with muggle television. She restrained from pretending to take his temperature to see if he was sick. Not that she got the chance, before she could speak Apollo had stood up with her in his arms. She frowned at him, "Is the recliner not suitable anymore?" She asked, teasing him before resting her head on his shoulder and wrapping her arms around his neck as he carried her downstairs. As they reached the bedroom, Apollo dumped her on the bed and Adora glared up at him, "With as much finesse as ever." She smirked but her smile faded slightly as he clambered on top of her, wondering what he was doing. Not that she was complaining, and she admitted silently to herself that it actually felt amazingly good to be in this position with him.

She blinked up at him as he started talking, struggling to focus on his words for a moment but finally managing to make her distracted minds stand to attention. However, when he kissed her lips gently Adora's eyes widened slightly as she stared up at him, waiting for him to continue, he did and Adora sighed softly. She didn't know how many times she would have to tell Apollo that she wasn't going anywhere, that she was in this for the long run as long as he didn't return to the death eaters, which so far, in the past two months he had been proving that he had no intention of doing so. He kissed her again and as he mentioned staying down here with him and sleeping with him Adora couldn't help but laugh, she couldn't understand why she did, she supposed she just hadn't expected that to come out of his mouth - they had never slept together before even just as friends, Adora had always just assumed he liked his privacy. She was still trying to cover her laugh when Apollo leant down and kissed her once more, deeper than the other two times and enough to take Adora's breath away. When he broke away she couldn't help but release a tiny sigh of content, watching him with curious eyes, wondering what had brought this all on today. She listened to the other option he gave her before he moved away to sit against the side board. Adora rolled over onto her stomach and looked over at him, her head resting in her cupped hands.

She spoke quietly at first, "I don't want to go." Adora watched him for a few moments before pushing herself up and crawling over to him, clambering onto him and straddling his hips as she looked down at him, "I want to stay here. With you." Adora bent her head slightly and kissed him gently, just as he had done at first. "I want to be with you forever. You have always been enough, Apollo, why do you think I'm fighting so hard to bring you back?" She kissed him again, gently, just as he had, just letting her lips brush against his, "Your flaws, your darkness, your temper, they're nothing I can't handle, I was prepared for them a long time ago when I decided I wasn't going anywhere. This decision you are giving me now - I made my choice years ago, Apollo, I want to stay with you. Forever." She leant down once more and pressed her lips against his, firmer than before, kissing him passionately, putting everything she felt, every ounce of how much she needed him into the kiss as her hands held either side of his face. She drew back for a moment, "So just please don't give me a reason to have to go." She returned her lips to his, kissing his bottom lip with both of hers and stroked her fingers along the side of his face, murmuring against his lips, "I'm staying." Why was kissing him so perfect? Because she had waited so long to do it? She had never been this way around him before and for a moment Adora feared she might put him off so she pulled back, sitting up and biting her lip, looking at him apologetically, "Sorry, I'll stop now." She smirked at him and lowered her eyes, shyly, despite the fact she was straddling his hips, her cheeks going slightly red as she coughed nervously.

Apollo realized he was holding his breath as Adora rolled over onto her stomach and looked over at him, her head resting in her cupped hands. He smiled a lopsided smile that only showed on one side of his face. She spoke quietly at first, "I don't want to go." Adora watched him for a few moments before pushing herself up and crawling over to him, clambering onto him and straddling his hips as she looked down at him, "I want to stay here. With you." Adora bent her head slightly and kissed him gently. He let out the breath he was holding and placed his hands lightly on the small of her back. Forever." She leant down once more and pressed her lips against his, firmer than before, kissing him passionately, her hands held either side of his face. It was such a pure and heart felt kiss that Apollo wanted to cry and hold her close to him and never let her go. She was and always had been the one. He knew that the second her met her in his second year, her first, on the train. She was his life. She drew back for a moment, his eyes met hers he was slightly disappointed that she had broken away from that perfect kiss but he said nothing letting her continue, "So just please don't give me a reason to have to go." She returned her lips to his, kissing his bottom lip with both of hers and stroked her fingers along the side of his face, murmuring against his lips, "I'm staying." He closed his eyes resting his forehead against hers, completely lost in the feeling of her I his arms with their lips brushing against each other’s. He could feel her breath on his face and he was sure she could feel his. Just before he could pull her closer and kiss her again she pulled back, sitting up and biting her lip, looking at him apologetically, "Sorry, I'll stop now." She smirked at him and lowered her eyes, shyly, her cheeks going slightly red as she coughed nervously.

He looked at her curiously, “Sorry? For what?” He smiled at her and pulled her close again, “I don’t want you to stop.” He kissed her as he placed one hand behind her head, the other resting on the small of her back pressing her closer to him. The only thing keeping them from being even closer than they were at this moment was their clothes. He shifted under her so he could uncross his legs then gently lowered her on to the bed so that he was once again hovering over her. He moved his hand from the back of her head and placed it gently on her face. He had kept his lips locked with hers the whole time. Apollo gently ran his tongue across her bottom lip, letting it dart into her mouth as her lips parted slightly. His tongue found hers and danced lightly across it. He broke finally from the kiss, needing to breath. He looked into her eyes a smile in them as well as on his face as he gently stroked her cheek with his thumb. “I have wanted to kiss you like that for a very, very long time.” He kissed her nose lightly. “I want to keep kissing you like this, forever. But, I need you to answer one question for me first. Okay?” He smiled at her and brought his lips to meet hers again. When he broke away again he said, “You and I have been friends, best friends for a very long time, such good friends that our other friends always assumed we were a couple, though we never have been.” He kissed her neck. He nibbled lightly on her ear. “I always wanted to ask you out.” Apollo kissed her shoulder. “But I always feared you didn’t feel the same way.” He trailed kisses down her arm to her hand. He kissed the back of her hand then turned it over kissing her palm, “But now,” He looked up at her, meeting her eyes. “I know differently. I know you feel the same. I assume you’ve always felt the same.” He smiled and placed her arm down gently on the bed. He leaned forward and pushed her shirt up gently, exposing her stomach. He kissed the skin there. “So, provided how we have always felt for each other and how long we have waited to be together. I want to skip all the fluffy dating stuff and go straight to the best part.” He put her shirt back in its rightful place and moved to kiss her neck again letting her ponder over what he just said knowing full well she would be thinking he wanted sex. Which wasn’t far from the truth, but there was something else he wanted to do first.

He rolled off of her and stood up, “Stay there, please.” He smiled at her loving how utterly frustrated she looked. He had to admit, she looked insanely hot laying there watching him. He smiled at her then disappeared into the closet. He pushed the door shut behind him. Apollo went to a very old mahogany trunk. He unlocked it with his wand and opened it revealing everything that he had left of his parents. He swallowed hard; it had been a long time since he had opened this trunk. It had a few of his dads clothes, ones that Apollo remembered most. It had his mother’s favorite dress, her favorite novels and books and the item he was looking for. He picked up the small box gently in his hand. “Mum, Dad I may not have made the best choices in my life since you passed but tonight, I am going to make it right. I hope you will be proud of me for this.” He closed his eyes for a moment. When he opened them he stuffed the box into his jeans pocket, and then shut the trunk. He locked it with his want then left the closet. He was amused to find Adora still on the bed; though he had a feeling she had been pressing her ear to the door trying to figure out what he had been doing. He smiled at her and took her hands in his and pulled her to her feet.

Apollo released one of her hands placing his now free hand on her face and rubbing her cheek with his thumb. “You are the most important person in my life Adora. You are all I have. My only family.” He leaned in and kissed her passionately. He broke away after several minutes. “I never want to lose you. I love you far too much. And I will continue to do my best at keeping my past and darkness from haunting me.” He kept her hand in his as he dropped to one knee in front of her. “I want to spend my life with you Adora; you are the best thing that has ever happened to me. Probably the only good thing I will ever have in my life.” He reached into his pocket with his free hand and pulled out the box. He let go of her hand for a moment to open it revealing a ring. A beautiful heart-shaped diamond solitaire shines from the center of this ring is set in stunning 14K white gold and has a diamond weight of 1/2 carat. “This was going to be an anniversary gift for my mother from me when I was little. My father helped me pick it out for her. I never got to give it to her. I feel it’s only right to give it to the woman I love.” He took her left hand in his, holding the box in his other. He looked up into her eyes, “Adora Michelle White, will you marry me?” He kept his eyes on her watching and waiting for her answer. He knew she was not his girlfriend, he knew they had never expressed their feelings until recently, he knew tonight had been the first time they kissed each other but it was what he truly wanted. He wanted this more than anything in the world. She was, is and always had been his happiness. Adora is his life. Apollo couldn’t see himself without her.

It was all Adora could do not to blush deeply when Apollo told her that he didn't want her to stop - she wasn't about to admit to him how good it felt to lie beneath him as he hovered above her, their bodies pressed close together. Their lips were still moving on each other’s and Adora let out a quiet moan of longing as they continued to kiss and Apollo's tongue found hers. Adora was completely lost in the kiss, unsure of how much time had passed when Apollo finally broke away. She looked up at him, a small smile playing across her lips as she felt his breath brushing over her face as he caught his breath. She didn't know why she was still surprised to hear that he had been waiting all this time to kiss her like this but even as he said it now, after everything that had been said between them, Adora found it vaguely surprising, but of course in a good way. She watched him, smiling at his words and then cocking her head to one side as he mentioned he wanted to ask her something, however, before she could say anymore Apollo's lips were back against hers and she wasn't about to break the kiss to speak.

Eventually, he broke away and Adora attempted to look up at him as he spoke but instead turned her head to the side and closed her eyes as he kissed her neck and nibbled lightly on her ear. Adora wondered how Apollo expected her to be able to concentrate on his words when he was doing that. He must have absolutely no idea how distracting it was, she thought, as he kissed her shoulder and continued speaking at the same time. "Of course I felt the same way..." She breathed as kissed his way down her arm and to her head, as he kissed her palm Adora wished she could stroke her hand over his stubble and push her fingers into his hair but she let him continue with what he was doing, curious to see where he was going with this. She was so distracted by what he was going to say, that when Apollo pushed her shirt up gently to expose her stomach Adora jumped slightly and looked down at him, one eyebrow slightly raised - that hadn't been where she had expected him to be heading. Despite her shock, she had to laugh at his next words - it was so utterly like him - Apollo was never one to sugar-coat things and he was possibly the least romantic person she knew. However, Adora couldn't deny that she loved it, even if she thought he was talking about sex, which she wasn't entirely sure was appropriate but then again she definitely wasn't complaining.

He placed her shirt back down and went on to kidding her neck again until Adora was practically squirming beneath him. She was still waiting for him to speak again when Apollo suddenly rolled off and walked off, Adora stared after him, feeling utterly abandoned and more than a little pissed off that he had just left her in such a position. She felt hot and flustered and desperately frustrated so she sat up, instead of staying where she was as he had instructed, and swung her legs off the edge of the bed, frowning at the closet door that he had disappeared into. What on earth was he doing in there? She had thought he wanted sex, so what was he doing? Getting ready or something? She raised her eyebrows at her own thoughts and silently slid off the bed and padded softly over to the door, pressing her ear up against it and listening carefully. Unfortunately she couldn't hear much, just Apollo murmuring something that she didn't catch and then muffled shuffling. Realising he was coming out Adora darted back to the bed and leapt back in the position she had been in when he left, looking round at him as if she had been there the whole time, a calm but curious look on her face.

Apollo walked over to her and Adore looked up at wondering what he was doing as he took she hands and pulled her so she was standing in front of him. Even though she didn't know what was going on Adora leaned her head into Apollo's hand as he caressed her cheek, watching him carefully and listening to what he was saying, still unsure where he was going with this. Before she could figure out much more though Apollo leaned forward and they were kissing again, so passionately that it took Adora's breath away and she reached up to place her hands on Apollo's chest to keep herself steady as they kissed. After several minutes Apollo pulled back and Adora took a much needed breath, a small smile touching her lips once again. She heard the promise in his voice and for the first time she completely believed him, he seemed so insistent that he wanted to change for her. Adora was still musing over his words when Apollo suddenly bent and got down onto one knee. Adora had to admit it took her a moment to work out what he was doing on the floor before it clicked. However, when it did her mouth dropped open in possibly the least attractive way ever.

She was pretty sure she missed whatever he was saying as she simply stared at him, trying to figure out how the least romantic guy in the world was on one knee in front of her asking her to marry him. Her eyes snapped from his face to the box that he then withdrew from his pocket with his free hand, staring at it still but having to good sense to close her mouth. That was until Apollo opened the box and Adora gasped softly without meaning to as he revealed the most beautiful diamond ring, she looked up at him as he explained and then back down at the ring as he asked her the one question Adora would have never thought in a million years she would have heard from this boy's lips. Adora stared at the ring for several moments, trying to register everything that was going on before she even attempted to speak. Unfortunately it seemed she attempted the task too soon because as she started to speak all that came out was a soft, murmured, "Erm... I-I..." Adora closed her eyes and tried to calm her pounding, when she opened them again she looked straight into Apollo's eyes. A delicate smile spread across her lips as she looked into his eyes and saw the boy she had loved for so long. Before she knew it Adora was nodding, her smile turning into a fully formed grin as she beamed down at him and managed to say, "Yes, yes of course." She dropped to her knees before he could even put the ring on her finger and threw her arms around his neck, holding herself close to him and laughing softly, knowing exactly what look he would have on his face without even needing to see it. Adora knew some would see it as rushed, but for her she had been waiting for this for years, she had always loved Apollo, even though his worst times she had loved him regardless. And now she truly believed that he wanted to change. That was enough.

Apollo tried to keep a passive expression on his face as Adora stared at the ring for several moments, he was panicking slightly in his mind. It was too soon, she was going to reject him. Why would she accept him like this? He after all was nothing but a murderer. He should be in Azkaban for the crimes he had committed during the war. He wouldn’t blame her at all if she rejected him now. Her soft delicate voice interrupted his self-hating thoughts, she murmured, "Erm... I-I..." Adora closed her, his heart was in his throat as he stared at her, his expression mirroring his panicked thoughts. When she opened them again she looked straight into Apollo's eyes, he locked his gaze with hers trying not to let her see the panic, though he knew she could. A delicate smile spread across her lips as she looked into his eyes, what she saw in them he didn’t know but it felt like she was looking past them deep into his soul or something. Her gaze was so pure it made his heart hurt staring back at her. Suddenly without warning, Adora was nodding, her smile turning into a fully formed grin as she beamed down at him and managed to say, "Yes, yes of course." She dropped to her knees, throwing her arms around his neck, holding herself close to him and laughing softly.

He sighed loudly with relief, as he wrapped his arms around her waist. He kissed her neck gently. All thoughts of doubt left his mind as he held her tightly. He shifted so that he was sitting cross legged on the floor with Adora in his lap. He pulled her as close to him as he could, hugging her tightly. He hoped this moment would never end. He also desperately hoped he hadn’t dreamed this moment up. He would be devastated if he woke up to find that none of this had actually happened. There was no telling what sort of self-harming things he would do to himself if this moment was in fact all in his head. But he knew, he just knew this was real and it was in fact happening. Adora his crush since, well forever was now his fiancé. His soon to be wife. That thought alone was the best thought in the world. He couldn’t mess this up. He had to make sure he stayed in the light, he could not go back into the darkness, he would lose her forever if he did. He snuggled his face into her neck, breathing her in, losing himself entirely in her touch, her smell and being hers.

They sat there for a very long time in total silence; the only noise was the sound of their breathing. Apollo finally shifted his arms and pulled away from her, he smiled at her as their eyes met. He kissed her lips gently. When he pulled away he took her left hand in his, hoping she didn’t notice how much his hand was shaking. Apollo pulled the ring from the box, letting it drop to the floor as he slipped the ring onto her finger. He brought her hand to his lips and kissed the back it tenderly. “You have just made me the happiest man on the planet.” He grinned widely at her. “Just so you know, the wedding can be whenever, where ever you want it. We can go somewhere right now if you wanted to. Anything to make you happy, my love.” He reached up with his hand and tucked her hair behind her ear. He pulled her to him again and kissed her. He kissed her passionately, more passionately than he had ever kissed anyone in his life. He put everything into it, his love for her, his sorrow for his crimes, and choices of his past, his regrets, but most importantly showing her how much her acceptance of his proposal meant to him. He wrapped his arms around her and lifted her carefully off of the floor. He set her down gently on his bed. He laid back with her positioned above him. Apollo finally broke from the kiss and smiled up at her, “I love you.” He wanted to keep kissing her, among other things but he resisted. She wasn’t just any other girl. With her, he wanted to wait even though he had already waited a life time to have her.

Just over a week passed by, Apollo and Adora managed to finish cleaning the house up and make it actually livable. Both had finally resorted to magic to push the cleaning along both finally realizing they would be at it for years if they didn’t. Apollo’s wound on his arm had healed long ago but he still continued to have Adora bandage it up. He refused to look at the scars left by his momentary lapse of insanity. He knew if he saw it he would break down and relapse again. He couldn’t bear to see the mark again. He knew it was still there, disfigured but there. Seeing it would bring all the memories back again, make him hate himself all over again. He just couldn’t bare the weight the mark brought on again. This day was no different, he made his way up the stairs after a quick morning shower. The smell of breakfast cooking reaching his nose made him smile. Adora always had a good meal ready at the perfect time. He made his way over to her an wrapped his arms around her waist, “Good morning beautiful.” He kissed her neck gently, “What are you cooking? Its smells delicious.” He kissed her again then backed away giving her the room to cook. He leaned against a counter out of her way and said, “When we’ve finished eating. Could you change them again?” He motioned towards his bandaged arm, knowing she would know it was what he meant. Changing the bandages was a normal routine for them now. But the look on her face told him otherwise. “What is that look for?” He bit his lip as he waited for her to answer him.

Perhaps she was a bit shell shocked but Adora sat for she didn't know how long in Apollo's arms, cuddled against his chest and unable to wipe the grin from her face even as they sat there in silence. It was almost a mutual shock that they sat in, not a horrified one mind you, not in the slightest, it was simply a mutual pleasure in being together and having the possibility of making their love official. Several times Adora looked up and kissed Apollo's neck, completely at peace in his arms as they just sat there. After a long time Apollo shifted and Adora pulled her head away, looking up at him and smiling softly as she watched his hands shake as he produced the small box. Her eyes strayed to it and she watched as he produced a beautiful ornate ring, taking her left hand and gently slipping it onto her finger. Adora's smile widened even more if that was possible and as Apollo pulled her into a passionate kiss, she slipped her hands into his hair, pulling herself closer to him and moaning softly as she felt the feeling behind it.

Never would she have imagined that she and Apollo would get this chance to be together, in fact she had given up on that dream long ago even if she hadn't given up on him. It had just never seemed a plausible reality and with their friendship being so strong Adora had already worried it would ruin it all for them. Now however, it was completely different, as if everything had just slipped into place and it was their time to be together. Everything felt right and Adora was sure if she felt any happier in that moment that she might as well have exploded. They were still kissing when Apollo suddenly lifted her from the floor and carried her over to the bed, unintentionally Adora felt something leap deep inside her with excitement, even though was wasn't sure if Apollo was thinking of that too. In the end, as he pulled her on top of him, Adora realised she was perfectly content to stay the way they were right now, for tonight at least - she was just happy to be with Apollo in this way and she couldn't ask for anything more. Adora looked down as Apollo spoke and she smiled softly, lying her head down on his chest as she spoke softly in response, "I love you too."

It turned out they barely had time to even think about the wedding or enjoying their new found intimacy in other ways over the next week. Both Apollo and Adora through themselves into fixing up the house, resigning to the use of magic when they realised muggle methods were getting them nowhere. Their routine was very much the same, it consisted in Adora practically pulling Apollo out of bed in the morning and going off to cook breakfast while he got dressed, then she would change his bandages, despite the fact his scars had healed days ago, then they would eat and return to their cleaning. The house was looking considerably better but they still had a floor and a half to cover before the place could be deemed a home. Eventually it was mostly finished, although Adora still found herself falling into the same routine as every other day, however she was becoming increasing uncomfortable with changing the bandages on Apollo's arm every day - it was pointless and she felt he was avoiding the issue, which couldn't happen, he had to face what had happened and move on from it, not stay stuck in the same dark place just hiding from the shadows. It didn't take long for Adora to build up the resolve to talk to him about it and so when Apollo came into the kitchen about a week after the proposal while she was cooking Adora had already decided it wasn't going to happen anymore.

She smiled as he kissed her neck, answering his question with a smirk in her voice, "Breakfast." She twisted back for a moment to kiss him back before returning to her cooking, feeling his eyes on her and feeling her stomach clench with something like arousal but it could have been nerves for the conversation that was about to happen. She knew it was coming even before he asked but as he did Adora closed her eyes for a moment before looking up at him with an exasperated look on her face. She shook her head and looked back at the bacon and tomato omelette that was cooking, wondering how to begin this. She took a small breath, still not looking at him but speaking quietly, "Apollo, I think we should just leave the bandage off." It wasn't that she wasn't sure of what she was saying but she just didn't know he was going to react, so hesitated for a minute as she shifted the halved omelette onto two plates and passed him one as she moved to sit at the table. "We can't keep replacing the bandage just because you don't want to see the mark, the wound needs to breath for starters and also you need to face it, then you can move on. Before you face the facts, Apollo, it’s always going to play on your mind." She hadn't looked at him once during her entire speech and now she looked up at him, unsure of his reaction to all this, "So no, I'm not going to change them today, or tomorrow, or the next day, now sit down and eat your breakfast and I'll take the bandage off once we're done." Adora held his gaze - she was actually surprised, he hadn't said anything and he didn't look like he was mad, maybe he actually agreed with her, maybe they could actually have a rational discussion about this... or even better maybe he would just accept that she was right. Then again, maybe not.

Apollo watched as Adora sighed, this didn’t sound good, what had he done now? "Apollo, I think we should just leave the bandage off." He was slightly shocked at her words. Leave them off? Why? He couldn’t. She really wouldn’t make him keep them off if he wasn’t ready, would she? He took his plate from her hands as she passed him one as she moved to sit at the table. "We can't keep replacing the bandage just because you don't want to see the mark, the wound needs to breath for starters and also you need to face it, then you can move on. Before you face the facts, Apollo, it’s always going to play on your mind." She hadn't looked at him once during her entire speech and now she looked up at him, "So no, I'm not going to change them today, or tomorrow, or the next day, now sit down and eat your breakfast and I'll take the bandage off once we're done." Adora held his gaze, as he sat down at the table.

Apollo kept his eyes on her, but he wasn’t really looking at her. His expression stayed relatively passive, however his mind was racing. He knew he couldn’t face the mark again, he wasn’t ready for it. But he also didn’t want to lose Adora over it. He had promised her he wouldn’t go back into the darkness but thinking about the mark brought everything back. His thoughts went back to when he first got the mark. Back then, he had been proud of it, proud of what it meant; power and wealth. Being a death eater seemed like the best place to be during the war. He even acted like he was better than halfboods and mudbloods. Yes, he had called many muggle borns a mudblood back then. Now the thought disgusted him. He shook his head slowly and closed his eyes. He didn’t want to be in this mind set again.

He knew Adora was still watching him and expecting him to react in some way but he couldn’t. Not yet, he had to get a grasp on the idea of facing the mark head on again. He swallowed hard and looked away from Adora, finally able to force himself out of his own mind. He stood up from the table and moved to star out of the back door into the woods behind the house. Apollo looked down at his arm and touched the bandages lightly with his hand. He tugged on a loose strand for a moment before dropping both hands to his side. He looked back at Adora, and shook his head. “I---” He wanted to say more. But he didn’t know what else to say right then. He bit the corner of his bottom lip for a moment then moved back to the table. He sat down slowly. Once seated he ate his food trying to by himself some time to really put together what he wanted to say. Too soon the food was gone and he knew he couldn’t stall anymore. He placed his bandaged arm on the table and rested his head on his hand. He looked across the table at Adora. “I can’t face it.” He looked down at his plate, “I really can’t I will fall apart Adora.” He knew he sounded ridiculous but it was how he felt. “If you won’t bandage them anymore I will do it myself. If I don’t see it, I won’t think about it.” It was a childish reason, but it made sense, out of sight out of mind.

Adora looked up and glared at him, "Apollo this needs to stop, you have to face it. You can't just live your whole life afraid of it. I won't bandage it and neither will you." She stood up and grabbed his wand off the table and pocketed it, before picking up his plate and hers and dumping them in the sink, "That's the end of it, Apollo, you have to face this and stop being such a coward." His mouth fell open as he stared at her. She took his wand. What the fuck? He stood up and walked over to her and reached out to take his wand but she moved it out of his reach every time he got close.

“Really Adora?” He reached for it again, she moved it. “What the fuck does taking my wand from me have to do with these stupid bandages? Huh? I can do it without magic you know!” He practically shouted at her, unintentionally of course but he was pissed she was being unreasonable, at least in his eyes she was. He turned and walked down the stairs out of the kitchen. He went into the bathroom, leaving the door open. He started pulling on the bandages trying to undo them. They wouldn’t budge. “Damnit.” He tried using his teeth to rip the material off his arm. It still didn’t budge, “What the fuck?” He was getting more and more pissed off. He pulled his pocket knife out of his jeans pocket and started trying to cut it off. Still nothing. “You can’t be serious?” He threw the knife into the sink and went into the bedroom.

He threw himself on the bed. He shouted so Adora could hear him, “You are ridiculous! Charming it so I can’t get it off without magic? Screw you!” He picked up a book from his side of the bed and threw it across the room in his frustration. It hit the closet door with a loud thwacking sound. Throwing the book wasn’t satisfying enough so he threw each of the pillows that were arranged on the bed across the room too. Still angry he stood up and punched the wall behind the bed with his bandaged arm. “Argh!” He cried out in pain as his fist went through the wall.

He looked down at his hand; the white bandages were now soiled with blood from his knuckles. He walked back into the bathroom and grabbed a towel. Apollo wrapped it around his hand and sat down in the middle of the bedroom floor starring out the door waiting for Adora to decide to come down the steps. When he finally saw her in the door way he looked up, “Not a word. Not a fucking damn word.” He glared at her as she approached him. He knew she wouldn’t stay quiet. She would go on and on about how stupid and childish he was acting or something along those lines. It wouldn’t be too far off; he was only nineteen after all. So he did have a lot of growing up to do still.

As Apollo stood up from the table Adora's eyes followed him, wondering where he thought he was going. his plate still sat on the table and Adora sighed looking at it, she really didn't want to fight with him like this but they were both as stubborn as the other and Adora was convinced that she was right in this case. However, most of all she wanted to work this out, at least talk about it so that Apollo would see where she was coming from about all this but she couldn't do that if he walked out now. Thankfully, Apollo turned around before he reached the door, her eyes met his as he started to speak but the comment was never finished and instead Apollo sat down slowly with his food in front of him, opposite Adora at the table. He started eating and after a moment Adora followed suit and continued with her own breakfast, she knew he was playing for time and she let him, knowing that no matter what he came up with to say in his defence she would stand by what she had said - he was going to have to face it at some point, and sooner was better than later before it became too big for him to handle. In Adora's opinion, even if Apollo thought he couldn't handle it now it was nothing compared to what it would be like if he just simply buried the darkness somewhere deep in his mind and then in a few months from now was forced the face it - or did he think he was going to live with the bandages forever?

Finally they both finished eating and Adora looked up at him as he began to speak, holding his gaze and not saying anything, knowing he would just get irritable if she interrupted him. However, his words grated on her - she didn't understand what he was expecting to happen here, did he think he was just going to be able to hide the mark forever? That maybe eventually it would fade? He had to face his mistakes like everyone else, he couldn't hide from them. Once he had finished Adora looked up and glared at him, "Apollo this needs to stop, you have to face it. You can't just live your whole life afraid of it. I won't bandage it and neither will you." She stood up and grabbed his wand off the table and pocketed it, before picking up his plate and hers and dumping them in the sink, "That's the end of it, Apollo, you have to face this and stop being such a coward." She was still glaring at him as he stood up and walked over to her, just as he reached her he moved to grab his wand but Adora took two steps away from him, her eyes locked with his, stern and angry at his childishness. He tried again and again she moved back, unwilling to let him have his wand back until he saw reason, or in other words, agreed with what she was saying. She knew he wouldn't be able to remove his current bandages without the use of magic and so he had two choices, he could either agree with her and allow her to remove the bandages and not replace them with fresh ones or he could live in the one he had on, which was already unpleasantly grey from general dust, sweat and dirt. Either way he wasn't getting his wand back until Adora decided he was in complete agreement with her.

Adora just glared at him as he practically shouted at her and stood firmly in her place, two steps away from him so he couldn't reach his wand. She didn't take her eyes off him until Apollo disappeared down the steps to their bedroom, when she heard the door at the bottom of the stairs open she leant against the work surface and let out a breath, hoping that his storming off meant that she had won. However, a couple of minutes later she heard Apollo's shouts from the bedroom, obviously signalling that he had been trying to remove the bandage and failed. Adora gave a small smile, hoping that maybe now he would listen to her, now that he understood there was nothing he could do about the bandages without her help. Apparently he wasn't in a reasonable mood yet though because a moment later Adora heard a loud thump below her as something was thrown across the room. She rolled her eyes and began to fill the sink with warm, soapy water, placing the dirty dishes into the sink. She was just about to begin scrubbing them when she heard a much louder thud from below her in the bedroom and a cry of pain. Startled, Adora dropped the plate she had been holding onto the side of the sink where it shattered. Not that Adora noticed this, she was already pacing towards the stairs and hurrying down them, murmuring curses under her breath at Apollo's stupidity and short temper. Whatever he had done this time to work through his anger, she doubted she would like the look of it.

She hurried through the bedroom door, only to find her fears had been true - the wall behind the bed had a fist sized hole in it. She couldn't help but swear out loud in annoyance, completely ignoring what Apollo snapped at her as she entered, "Oh for fuck's sake, Apollo." She walked up to him, where he sat in the middle of the floor, glancing down at the towel around his hand, "I hope that fucking hurts." She snapped out of anger, standing in front of him with her arms crossed, "Can't you see what it’s doing to you already, Apollo? You've already been hiding from it for too long and now you're dreading taking it off, but you have too. You don't have a choice." She dropped to her knees in front of him and grabbed the hand he had wrapped in a towel roughly, "You're such an idiot." She pulled away the towel and withdrew her wand, healing his knuckles with a sharp tap, that was slightly harder than it needed to be. Adora looked up at him, "This bandage is coming off, Apollo, whether you like it or not, you have to face what you did otherwise you will never be able to get over it and move on, and I don't want you to be stuck here forever." Her eyes burned with fire, probably mirroring Apollo's as well but before he could pull back Adora touched her wand to her bandage and it ripped down the centre. Adora pulled it away and stood up, pocketing her wand beside Apollo's and looking down at him, "Now please, just trust me, this will help, Apollo, you can't keep that bandage on forever, please." Her eyes didn't look to his face though, her eyes were fixed on the dark mark on Apollo's arm, the ugly scars that almost disfigured the even uglier symbol of the skull and snake. It made Adora feel sick just looking at it but she knew that just as much as Apollo needed to accept his mistakes, so did she. Now all she could do was wait for her reaction and at least hope that he was listening to her, although the hole in the wall above the bed told a different story.

She snapped out of anger, standing in front of him with her arms crossed, "Can't you see what it’s doing to you already, Apollo? You've already been hiding from it for too long and now you're dreading taking it off, but you have too. You don't have a choice." He shrugged his shoulders, she was right. He was dreading it. Facing it just wasn’t something he wanted to do. He wasn’t so sure that he even could. He watched her as she dropped to her knees in front of him and grabbed the hand he had wrapped in a towel roughly, "You're such an idiot." She pulled away the towel and withdrew her wand, healing his knuckles with a sharp tap that was slightly harder than it needed to be.

He winced, that had been uncalled for. It already hurt. She didn’t need to rub it in. He scowled at her as she looked up at him, "This bandage is coming off, Apollo, whether you like it or not, you have to face what you did otherwise you will never be able to get over it and move on, and I don't want you to be stuck here forever." Her eyes burned with fire, probably mirroring Apollo's as well but before he could pull back Adora touched her wand to her bandage and it ripped down the center. Adora pulled it away and stood up, pocketing her wand beside Apollo's and looking down at him, "Now please, just trust me, this will help, Apollo, you can't keep that bandage on forever, please." He hardly heard her words; he couldn’t look away from it. It demanded his eyes to fix upon it. His dark mark, disfigured and quite horrific looking now that it was scarred from the deep cuts. It was the symbol of his past. His mistakes and everything that was wrong in his life. All the darkness he couldn’t undo.

As he starred at it he spoke quietly, hardly over a whisper, “Make it stop. Just make it go away.” He couldn’t look away from it. He wanted to, desperately. But he was transfixed. All the memories front and center in his mind, ripping through him, tearing apart his conscious. They were vivid, as if he was there all over again. His parents, slaughtered right in front of him as he hid in his closet. Tears started to roll down his face as he tried to look away. The war, so many innocent lives lost. “Adora please.” His words hardly left his lips. More memories flooded back, it was too much. This mark was everything he didn’t want to be. He lifted his other hand and placed it lightly on the mark. He still couldn’t look away from it. Adora looked at him nervously, biting her lip, "Apollo, you have to accept its there, you have to look at it and understand its a part of you. Please, its only going to get worse if you don't." She reached forward tentatively and tried to pull his hand off the mark so he could see it.

He tensed at her touch but looked up at her. “I---,” He looked away, his eyes back down on Adora’s hand over his, “I know. I just…I can’t.” He turned his hand up and laced his fingers with hers for a moment then set her hand into her lap, letting go and looking at her, he was avoiding looking at it. He knew she could tell but right now that didn’t matter. “Just clean it up.” He said sharply. Adora looked up at him sharply, her sympathetic face fading into annoyance; she moved away from him, standing up and backing away, "No, Apollo, I won't clean it up. And neither will you. You. Have. To. Accept. It." She spoke slowly, "I'm trying to get you to understand, Apollo." He glared at her for a moment then looked away from her.

He didn’t want to admit it but she was right. He had to accept it. Despite everything it was part of him, part of his past. It would forever haunt him if he didn’t face it head on. He sat in silence for a very long time starring at the wall in front of him. He said nothing, he didn’t move either. Apollo sat on the floor for nearly an hour like that. Finally he looked over at Adora where she sat a ways away from him. His expression far softer than it had been earlier. He reached out and touched her face lightly with his hand, caressing her cheek gently. “I do accept it Adora. But that doesn’t mean I have to like it.” He dropped his hand from her face and turned his forearm up so that he could look at the mark. Apollo lifted his other hand and traced the disfigured pattern with his index finger. “I can’t face it.” He glanced at her, “At least….” He looked back down, “I can’t alone.” He shifted so that his back was against the bed and he was sitting next to her. “All these years, through everything. One thing has always kept me from losing myself entirely to darkness.” He looked at her, a small smile on his face, “Do you know what that is?”

As she shook her head he laughed lightly, “You love. Always you. The light in my darkness. I cannot get through this, without you.” He reached out and took her hand in his and placed it on his arm so that her palm was resting on the mark, “Your kindness, affection and gentle heart help me more than you could ever understand.” He looked up meeting her gaze, “I know I am unreasonable and stubborn. I know I can be a total ass to you but always know, no matter what I say or do I do love you. I always need you and trust what you say. And if you truly believe it’s time for me to stare at my mark every damn day then so be it, at least use your amazing gift of healing to make it a little less disgusting. Maybe then, it won’t be so unbearable.” He reached up and placed his hand back on her cheek and leaned in kissing her lightly, “Can you at least do that? Please?” he kept his gaze on hers, making sure she knew he was calm that he had no intention of lashing out again. He was ready to listen to reason and go with whatever she thought was best for him to do in order to start coping with his past.
